Answer Hello, The traditional black Civil Rights organizations until the 1960’s focused primarily on trying to win over white America by appearing to be reasonable and focusing Christian moral principles to further their causes. The primary goal was complete integration of black and white America. Malcolm X represented a radically different approach. He rejected Christianity and white society. His focus was on black empowerment. He took a militant and separationist approach arguing that blacks should stay out of white America and build their own societies. Most whites met Malcolm X’s approach with feeling his militant defiance would only lead to greater violence. Traditional black groups tended to take this view as well. Malcolm tended to draws his greatest support in northern urban areas where inner-city blacks found his empowerment approach appealing. I hope this helps!
