What kind of configuration is necessary to get HQ for AWS up and running?

None, or very little, depending on your situation. If you are going to define alerts, and want HQ to send alert notifications, you need to define the “to” and “from” email addresses, and point to your mail server. Assuming that multiple users will be accessing the HQ user interface, you will probably want to set up individual user accounts for each. If desired, you can configure HQ to leverage an existing authentication server, but you don’t have to. HQ has a lot of rich functionality, and there are plenty of options that you can configure—but you don’t have to to get started. Note also that most configuration can be accomplished from the HQ user interface.
