What kind of foods should i eat before a big test?
Make sure you have eaten protein and slow burning carbs. Stay away from any quick burning carbs or foods high in sugar as this will cause a blood sugar spike and leave you tired and groggy. If your exam is in the morning, eat something like eggs and whole wheat toast or oatmeal with nuts. If it’s after lunch, try a sandwhich made with whole wheat. Just avoid anything high in fat as this will make you groggy as well.
it depends a lot on when you eat them. RIGHT before a test, you shouldn’t eat, but if you have to, have protein – meat, fish chicken, nuts, but meats should be lean. Definitely no candy, no sugar, no simple carbs like white bread. You’ll get a jitter rush so you can’t concentrate, and then crash halfway through the test. If you are eating an hour or two beforehand, eat complex carbs like whole grain bread, cereal, fruit and veggies with vitamins and minerals.
Think about the foods that you feel the best after you eat them…. apples are good at keeping you alert and the sugars release slowly so you’ll maintain a nice steady balance of energy. I also recommend some protein like peanut butter toast or an egg and cheese omelet. In psychology and educational psych we learned that its best to eat or drink what you had when you studied. Also, sucking on a peppermint candy when taking a test helps keep you alert. Good luck!
