What kind of grooming does a Cornish Rex require?
A. Some Cornish Rex require regular bathing because of the buildup of sebaceous secretions. All cats produce these normal oily secretions, but Cornish Rex don’t have as much hair to absorb them as ordinary cats. Allowed to collect, these oily secretions can make the coat look greasy and can even cause skin problems. The need for bathing depends a lot upon the individual cat, however. Some need weekly bathing, while others need a bath every few months. With Cornish Rex, it’s also important to clean the nail beds above the claws. You may notice a waxy black buildup at the base of the claws. To clean the nail beds, use a wet soapy washcloth, extend the claws with your fingers and wipe clean with the washcloth. Trim the nails and clean the ears with a cotton ball and an ear cleaning solution for cats and your cat is perfectly groomed! (You may find it necessary to clean the ears quite often, as they will accumulate wax faster than ordinary cats.) *NOTE* I am now a distributor for Pet Silkā¢
