What kind of math does a construction engineer need?

0

There is a big difference between a “construction” engineer and a civil engineer. Someone with the title construction engineer (this title is usu. not used, estimator or construction manager is more common) would use general math, aka addition, subtraction etc. to estimate the costs of projects. The important thing w/ this math is really economics classes, because you have to assume prices and project inflation, deflation over time. Also someone in construction needs to be strong in trigonometry and have the ability to apply calculus classes in a construction setting. You will never actually have to perform calculus functions, but all engineers take these classes because they teach you how to think. Civil engineers do more design, and on occasion may actually use some advanced math, especially in hydraulics or structural applications, where long calculations with many interations may be required. Hope this helps.
