There’s a lot of conflicting advice concerning protein and fat levels, calcium and supplementation! From my own experience, a food that has between a minimum of 22% and maximum of 29% protein, with a fat content of between 9% and 15% works best for large breed puppies (I have Rottweilers). Large and giant breeds grow very fast and it’s a balancing act to make sure they get enough nutrition without going overboard in one area or another. If you have a high quality food you shouldn’t generally need to add any supplements. It’s important not to overfeed large breed puppies, you don’t want them to grow too fast or it leads to bone and joint problems. A chubby puppy looks adorable, but it’s not good for his long term health! Avoid letting him jump into or out of cars, off porches or steps and sliding on wood, slippery floors or wet muddy ground can cause damage.
