What kind of work will I do as a veterinary technician?

I have been a CVT for 3 1/2 years, and I love what I do. I work in a small clinic with 2 doctors. On a daily basis I, assist with surgeries (ranging anywhere from simple spays and neuters to orthopedic surgeries to exploratories), I perform lab work including bloodwork, urinalysis, fecals and other parasitology duties. I take radiographs, draw blood, give injections, put in IV catheters, among many many many other things (almost too many to list!!!). As far as education, find a good school with good hands on experience. For licensing, you have to take a state and a national test. You will definitely want to be certified. A lot of employers look for that. Salary really varies by location and experience. Don’t expect to make a ton of money especially right out of school. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Being a CVT is very rewarding and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Good Luck!!!
