What kinds of research expenses will SSHRC help cover?
According to the SSHRC Grant Holder’s Guide, funds from the Standard Research Grant (SRG) can be used to “assist with the direct costs of the conduct and communication of research, including students’ and research assistants’ salaries and stipends, prepublication costs for the production of a scholarly edition, secretarial and clerical services, travel and subsistence, technical consultation, research equipment and supplies, and dissemination of findings.” Here are some typical budget items for Arts applicants: • Graduate and/or undergraduate research assistance • Travel (and subsistence) to consult archives, conduct interviews etc. • Travel (and subsistence) to communicate results at key conferences (grad student travel is eligible too, as long as it is essential to the project) • Books and supplies • Copying, mailing, courier expenses etc. • Small equipment: computers, recording devices, etc. The Guide provides details about eligible and ineligible expenses, so be sure to read it car
