• What kinds of staff expertise are the most difficult for nonprofit managers to find? • What staff development have nonprofit managers received in the past five years, and who provided it? • How could this staff development be improved? What staff development is missing? • Do nonprofits pay for staff development? for tuition? • Do nonprofit managers have incentives to earn a degree or credential in nonprofit management? Focus Groups Each participant received a personal invitation to the focus group followed-up with a letter from Provost Bruininks. In addition, they were given the set of questions we would be asking, and were invited to talk with their colleagues about the questions before they arrived. Many had prepared for the session by writing comments next to each question. After the session some even sent emails expressing appreciation for being asked to come and suggesting people who would be good resources for us down the road.
