What legal services exist in rural courts?
Pro Se Some of the challenges that rural courts face include lack of transportation, long travel distances, and a lack of experienced attorneys who are willing to provide the time and energy to help pro se litigants. Pro se assistance programs focus on rural communities because they lack access to may pro bono services that urban areas have. While these pro se assistance programs have increased access to judicial knowledge and services in rural communities, state courts are still working on expanding their services. Rural lawyers face different challenges than urban lawyers. Rural lawyers have small staffs, larger distances to travel, and more counties to represent. Lawyers in rural districts often have to register in many counties to serve one court. These challenges often limit the amount of pro bono services lawyers can offer.
