What lens is best used for fashion photography?

Yikes! The two first answers are so far off, I am sure neither of them have ever shot fashion in their lives. Fashion is really just a very stylized form of a combination of product and portraiture. Just look in the many fashion magazines to get an idea of what lenses and lighting is used by the contributing photographers in their pages. Here are the lenses I use in the studio and on location: 24-70 mm f/2.8 (about 80% of the time), 24-85 mm f/2.8~4 when shooting closeups of makeup or jewelry and a 50 mm f/1.4 for head and shoulder shots, especially if there is a scarf or fur stole involved. When shooting runway fashion shows, I add a 18-200 mm VR lens so I don’t always have to use my external flash with Gary Fong light diffuser.
