What main difference is there between a fascist dictatorship and a totalitarian one?
Fascist dictatorships tend to be totalitarian, like Communist dictatorships. Totalitarian dictatorships regulate every aspect of people’s lives, including whether they can worship or move around the country; even what people can eat or drink. Authoritarian regimes prevent people having political freedoms, but allow them to worship in the way they like and generally lead free lives, as long as they don’t get involved in politics. Fascism, as developed by Mussolini and Hitler, was totalitarian; some right-wing dictatorships such as the military juntas formerly in Latin America, are authoritarian, although often called Fascist.
