What makes an experiment elegant?
Simplicity and strong inference. Simplicity in that the study should be straight-forward with relatively few comparisons. Strong inference in that the alternative outcomes are few and each one of them meaningful; meaningful in the sense that the outcomes are mutually exclusive yet together they are totally inclusive.
