Each tree used to make Seattle Timberworks is one of a kind, with its own character and charm. Many of our pieces feature burls, knots, distinctive marks and unique growth patterns. Whereas most log furniture makers strip, sand, or machine away these interesting elements, our customized finishing process is designed with the specific goal of preserving each trees natural character. After harvesting, our trees are hand peeled and dried in our special kiln. We then buff and polish the outermost growth layer (the cambium layer) to a natural sheen. Finally, we preserve each trees natural finish with a clear, environmentally friendly water-borne lacquer. The result is a truly elegant, yet rustic appearance that reflects the natural beauty of the original wood.
