What medication can i take for cold and cough whilst Pregnant?

Hi I have had a really bad cold and visited a pharmacist. I was told just to take 2 paracetamol every 4 hours. They told me it was best not to have lemsip or other cough and cold products without consulting a doctor. If you get a really bad sore throat, Boots do an own brand cough and sore throat syrup that is safe for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers to take, that I have used, although it is not as good as the highly medicated ones. I was advised just to sit it out and get over it myself as a lot of things are not really safe and it isn’t worth introducin baby to them for the sake of a cold.
