What merit-based scholarships are offered?

W&M offers three different types of merit based scholarships for our incoming students: the James Monroe Scholarship, the Murray Scholarship and the William and Mary Scholarship. The James Monroe Scholar designation is awarded each year to approximately the top 5% of the incoming class. All applicants are considered for this program and no separate application is needed. This is not a tuition relief program, but Monroe Scholars receive a research stipend to explore an academic area of their choice. Other benefits to this program include a special housing option during freshman year, in the Monroe Residence Hall; they are given special consideration in the appointment of freshman advisors; are given priority registration for freshman seminars; and are invited to take part in a series of additional seminars.
