What might cause an explosion in a hydrogen powered vehicle?

Depends on how the hydrogen is stored. If as gas in a pressurised tank you can’t store enough to be useful.because the pressurised tank would need to be too big for the vehicle. So we are left with storage as a hydride of some metal,a hydride that can be made to give off it’s hydrogen gas with reasonable ease and speed.Problems with this storage and release system are the most serious explosion problem in the long term. When hydrogen is released explosively as a high pressure gas the probability of fire making things worse is a certainty.
