What motivates youth to fish?
The single most important reason why youth said they go fishing is to have fun and to be with friends and family. (Having a friend who fishes appears to increase the likelihood that a youth will show interest in fishing.) Other top reasons for fishing include being close to nature/outdoors and for the challenge. Younger youth (less than 12) typically say they fish “to catch fish” while older youth (12 and older) say that fishing to be with friends and to relax is more important to them.
