What must be done to properly assess pyrethroids and the environment in California as well as nationwide?
The PWG wants to ensure that the proper use of pyrethroids in agriculture and urban environments will not adversely affect the ecology of aquatic systems in California or in any other state. The PWG is interested in ensuring that CDPR utilizes the appropriate data in risk assessments and risk management decisions based on sound science. On the national level, it is important to note that the US EPA will be evaluating pyrethroids by 2010 under the Registration Review process. Since the outcome of the California re-evaluation is unknown at this time, the potential impact on federal registrations is also uncertain. Since 1990, the PWG has maintained close communications with the US EPA through the re-registration process for several pyrethroids and intends to continue to do so, including updating the Agency on the progress of the California re-evaluation.
