What non-surgical treatments exist for lower back pain?
The treatment of back pain ranges from simple reassurance that nothing is permanently wrong to extremely delicate surgery. Each case is different and treatment must be individualized to meet the circumstances of the patient and his or her condition. Non-surgical treatment, or conservative treatment, includes exercise, medications, physical therapy, and pain blocks. Exercise is the most important of these treatments. Many studies show that people who exercise regularly have far fewer back problems than those who do not.
