What optic neuritis?

0

Optic neuritis is inflammation of the optic nerve (cranial nerve II). The optic nerve transmits visual information from the eye to the brain (occipital lobe) that allows us to see. The optic nerve may be swollen (papillitis) or more commonly the visual function is affected but little or no changes are seen when your doctor looks in the back of your eye (retrobulbar neuritis). Visual field testing will often show a central area of loss (central scotoma), but any pattern of visual field loss is possible.
