Cosby Show Cast Reunites for 25th Anniversary Tuesday May 19, 2009 Can you believe it’s been 25 years since The Cosby Show first aired? To mark the anniversary, the cast reunited on The Today Tuesday to relive their favorite moments. “Our stuff is funny. There’s love there. It’s all genuine,” Bill Cosby explains of the endurance of the show, which premiered Sept. 20, 1984. See photos of your fave ’90s TV stars then and now. Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who played Theo Huxtable, says the show is still popular after all these years because of Bill Cosby’s “vision. He wanted the show to be timeless. If I wanted to put slang in, he’d say, ‘No, let’s make up slang so 20 years later, it’s still relevant.'” Keshia Knight-Pulliam, who starred as 4-year-old Rudy, says she thinks of the Huxtables as more of “an American family” than an “African-American family…that was what was so groundbreaking and still so relevant today. The family issues weren’t about race.” Check out the day’s top news photos. M

The cast of The Cosby Show reunited for its 25th Anniversary on the Today Show, today, on May 19. The Huxtable clan made their way to the set of the Today Show to sit and chat with host Matt Lauer about the ground-breaking sitcom. Lauer started out the interview with a simple statement about how great the show truly was and in true Cosby fashion, Bill ended up replying with a long-winded, yet, poignant answer. Lauer’s reply, “I’m trying to think, did I even ask a question?” The Cosby patriarch was decked out in a classic sweater, although more subdued than those for which he gained fame back in the show’s heyday, emblazoned with a ‘B’, assumingly representative of Bill. Throughout the interview both the cast and Lauer were in stitches. Lauer’s next question was a little more controversial but as with everything Cosby, the response was intelligent and well-said. “Were you out to depict and American family or an African American family, what was the most important message at the time?” T
