Thomas Jefferson (the author of the declaration of the Independence) also wrote a version of it for the French during the French Revolution. Our version was “Life, Liberty, and Property (The Pursuit of Happiness)” but the French version was “Life, Liberty, and Fraternity” (Fraternity means “brotherhood”). When Japan surrendered at the end of WWII, General MacArthur was appointed to be in charge of restructuring Japanese government and society. MacArthur rewrote the entirety of the Japanese Constitution modeling it in part on the US version and US declaration of independence as well as modeling it upon various other European systems.
