What percentage of uk population is ex armed forces?

Official statistics would be hard to find. However, there are still people alive who were in WW2,but they are in their mid-eighties now,at least. After that for a while,we had National Service,so there are people in their late-sixties/seventies that did that. That finished in the early 1960’s.Since then it has been a career choice,so very low figures for the last 40 years.Overall, not a high percentage,I would estimate less than 5% and decreasing.
