What plans are in place to fight the locust plague?
NSW has put in place a comprehensive plan to help farmers across the state protect their valuable crops and pastures from the looming spring locust plague. The plan is overseen by the Plague Locust Management Group which includes Industry & Investment NSW, LHPA and NSW Farmers’ Association. The Plague Locust State Coordination Headquarters is now operating from Industry & Investment NSW Headquarters in Orange where the NSW Plague Locust Commissioner is based. Local control centres at Dubbo and Wagga Wagga will operate on a needs basis as the season progresses. The NSW Government has also announced an $18.5 million funding package to help farmers fight the locust plague. This is on-top of the efforts of Industry & Investment NSW and the Livestock Health and Pest Authorities.
