Youth who are 14 to 24 years old, low income, residents of the city of Detroit and meet the at least one of the following criteria: has a disability, deficient in basic skills, below grade level, drop-out, pregnant or parenting, offender, homeless or runaway, or needs assistance in completing education. How many young people will the program serve? 7,000 youth from the City of Detroit will be served. The breakdown: 4,900 younger youth ages 14-18 and 2,100 older youth ages 19 to 24. At least 30% will be out-of-school youth. Where will the young people work? Youth will be placed with various organizations within the private, nonprofit and public sectors with some offering internships and job shadowing placements linked to occupational and academic learning.
