What portion of personality traits have a genetic component?
It depends on who’s theories you’re reading, but as a mom, I can tell you that my son was born complete and that what I’ve watched for the past 10 years is an unfolding process. My job has been to keep him safe and teach him manners, but the rest of his personality was very much complete on the day he was born. I used to believe strongly in “nurture” because as a therapist I had to believe that environment was a big cause and that people could change. But now I’m way over on the other side and think that we are about 95% “nature”.
