What protections does Title VII in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 include?
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits workplace discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, or national origin. In addition, an individual cannot be discriminated against based on his or her association with a member of a certain group, such as an interracial marriage. Sexual harassment is also covered under this Title. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 originally started as a piece of legislature to outlaw segregation in public schools, but quickly expanded to other realms such as women’s’ rights and the formation of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
