What right did women gain from the passage of the 19th Amendment?
The 19th Amendment not only gave women the right to vote in the ballot box, but in the jury room, as well. The Framers saw the jury as a great example of democracy, and when a group was granted the right to vote, this included the right to vote in the jury. Despite the burden of having to be on a jury, it allows the people themselves to govern directly. To decide whether a specific law should apply to this specific person in this situation. Before the 19th Amd, many laws, such as property laws and sexual assault laws (not to mention abortion) were sexist. The 19th Amd helped move away from this by allowing women to vote in the ballot box AND the jury room.
