The Huns were not Germanic tribes. The Germanic tribes that invaded Rome were known as the Goths. The Huns were a totally different set of nomadic-peoples that are believed to have migrated form the steppes of Asia, and settled in Hungary. From there Attila and his Huns devastated the Roman Empire. The Eastern Roman Empire was paying off the Huns with a yearly tribute of around 2000 pounds of gold. The Huns made enemy with the crumbling Western Roman Empire. The empire was already losing its power due to barbaric migrations, so the Huns took advantage of this. The affect of the Huns on the Roman Empire wasn’t major, but they weakened the falling empire and opened wider gaps for more Gothic invasions to attack. The empire fell 23 years after Attila the Hun’s death in 476 A.D.
