I had an indoor cat last year and the vet advised that she would need a booster injection once a year as some viruses are airborne and the injection would make it more possible for the cat to fight off the disease effectively. However, for indoor cats and kittens, these can now be done once every 2 years. Also, the kittens would need a flea treatment once in the summer months as heat is perfect for flea breeding! And fleas can jump and move around fast! I would also recommend worming the kittens every 6 months. Good luck with your kittens, theyre great pets to have!

Your vet should have an opinion on what shots they need. My indoor kitten has just finished getting all his shots. He was vaccinated against rabies and feline leukemia. He also received a FVR-CP shot, which protects against upper respiratory infections, calcivirus, and feline distemper. The distemper shots are annual and the leukemia shots are good for three years. Hope that helps!

outdoor cats can have all different types of diseases so if their going to be in contact its best to get them shoted, they will receive 2 shots initailly when they go in then a booster i think, its been awhile since i had cats, vets require cats to be UTD on shots before they get fixed also, shop arond for cheap places to get kittens/cats their shots, some places do a weekend thing where they go to a pet store and you can get their first shots for cheap!

You are making a very smart decision keeping your new kittens indoors. Indoor cats live an average of 10 years longer than outdoor cats and are at dramatically reduced risk for all kinds of diseases, parasites and injuries. As for the vaccinations, your kittens will need the 3-way distemper shot which vaccinates against herpes, calicivirus and panleukopenia. That will need to be boosted 4 weeks later, and then every 3 years after that. Once they are 6 months old they will need to get their rabies shots – it’s legally required in most states.
