What should I do?

I was fired from my job, and my boss said it was due to poor performance. I was pretty sure I was doing everything I could. I’ve always come to work on time, met my deadlines, and even stayed past working hours when needed. I suspect it was because of an incident where I argued with a superior who is buddies with my boss.

Poor performance is a legitimate ground for dismissal, but employers can cite that to disguise their prejudice against you. If you’ve had a recent disagreement with your boss, it’s easy to feel that the reason must be personal. I’d suggest making further inquiries. Ask whose decision it was to fire you and request a concrete example of your poor performance. But no matter what you do, keep your cool and do not make a scene as that can be used against you later.

If you are not satisfied with the answer and feel that you were wrongfully terminated, talk to a lawyer. Make sure you have evidence of your being a model employee. Gather documents such as employee reviews, attendance records, and even testimony from your colleagues to support your claim. I recommend visiting this website as they have the best wrongful termination lawyer in Los Angeles.
