What should sellers do to prepare their home for an open house?
Setting the stage for an open house is very important for a seller in order to get the best response from the potential buyers who may come through. First impressions are critical, so the seller needs to start with the front yard. Mow the grass, rake the leaves and prune the bushes if they hide the house. The inside of the home should be clean, and clutter and toys picked up. Open the drapes and turn on the lights. No one likes walking into a dark cave. Light candles or bake cookies so that the house smells good. Make sure the litter box is clean. The seller should take their pets with them when they leave during the open house. Nothing is more annoying to a prospective buyer than a jumping or barking dog. I advise my sellers not to leave anything of value lying around, such as jewelry or money.
