What should we expect from the new Macintosh models? What about the new Intel chips? What about running Windows applications on Macintoshes?
Macintosh computers now contain Intel processors, the same type of processor used by Windows machines. For the most part this new processor will produce significant performance improvements. In some cases applications that have not been re-written for the new processor may show marginal or no improvement in speed. We do not recommend a MacBook Air as a primary computer because it lacks an optical drive, has only one USB port, and does not have an internal wired network card. We don’t anticipate in the near future making available “dual-boot” Macintoshes, i.e. able to run both Windows and OSX 10.5 on the same machine. When and if this technology shows significant improvements in support and stability, we will re-evaluate this option.
