It is a lot easier to lay pavers on sand than on stones because it is easier to screed the sand to a smooth flat surface than to do so with larger rock. The stone can be used in any base rock application that will only need to support foot traffic loads. For heavier vehicle traffic a base of compacted class 2 aggregate will be the preferred choice.
