What skills and abilities are required to be an EMD with BC Ambulance Service?

EMDs working with the BC Ambulance Service must have the ability to: • Confidently defend their own decisions • Ask probing questions to get at the root of a situation or problem (which may be below the surface of the issues presented) • Understand and respond effectively to individuals in a variety of situations • Work co-operatively within diverse teams, work groups and across the organization to achieve group and organizational goals • Effectively calm others in an emotional situation • Quickly and independently make immediate and logical decisions and take appropriate action to ensure an appropriate response to an emergency situation in a complex, dynamic environment • Effectively adapt their approach in a variety of situations • Effectively manage and resolve conflicts and disagreements in a positive and constructive manner to minimize negative impact • Maintain and support organizational norms in job-related activities • Remain positive after a failure, accept responsibility ...  more
