What song and monologue should I use for a High School Musical Audition.?
Ok, you should probably use a song that fits your vocal range well. It’s usually preferred by theatrical directors to use a song that is not from the musical itself. Instead, use one from a popular, well-known musical, however, don’t use a song that is frequently overused. Try any musical by Rodgers and Hammerstien. As for your monologue, use a monologue from a published play, not from online or a monologue book. Read the entire play, and make sure that your monologue doesn’t run longer than one minute. One minute is usually the key time. Don’t automatically try Shakespeare (unless you have great previous experience). Neil Simon’s “Plaza Suite” is fully of female monologues. Best of Luck!
