What sort of foods are safe to eat after a wisdom tooth extraction?
Your food selection sounds pretty good, but the first three days you should stay away from dairy products as they increase the risk of infection. When the wound has healed, then you can enjoy your ice cream. The most important thing is that you do not spit in the first two days as that creates a vacuum in your mouth which increases the risk of dry socket – a very painful experience. If you have blood or saliva that you need to get rid of, then let it seep/run out of your mouth without spitting if you find the thought of swallowing it too disgusting. And, do not rinse with mouth wash!!!! The wound is supposed to develop a blood clot and if you sabotage that process, then it slows the healing. If you wash out the blood clot completely, then it will be a very painful experience for you. But, don’t worry about it. Getting a wisdom tooth out is not a lot of fun, but it does not have to be such a horrible experience as many people try to make it sound like.
