What sparked up the Feminist Movement?

Well… I can’t tell you exactly what sparked it, I mean there were so many different factors that would have pushed it along. So many dominant social values that oppressed women and to a small extent there still are. The war would have played a key role. During the war women were required to make up the workforce. Many would have found empowerment and satisfaction as working women, and when the war ended and what was left of the men returned home, most were forced back into their domestic roles but many remained in the workforce, their financial incomes providing for more freedom from social constraints. More women took to education, and used knowledge to empower themselves. The 60’s and 70’s was a time of major social change, not just for women but also for blacks, and for youth. Revolutionary literature such as ‘the female eunuch’ by Germaine Greer were controversial and gained much attention. Educational institutions were a breeding ground for controversial and revolutionary theory
