Sai Ram. Sakhyam Saaptha Padeenam is the saying. Seven steps make you a friend and these 7 steps also represent the relationship on 7 planes of consciousness ( 7 is a mystical number). And Agni dev is representative of all gods since He carries our offerings to them. Agni, Vayu, Jala, Bhumi and Akasa are the pancha bhootas (Five deities in charge of these different qualities). Along with the Sun (Sun embodies Agni) they are witness to our karmas.
