What standing committees would be established?

0

The constitution only establishes the executive committee, but leaves the door open for other committees. SPRUCE supports the creation of four other standing committees, designed to assist the Senate in managing legislation much the same way that Student Assembly’s Finance and Policy committees currently operate. These committees would include External Affairs, Internal Affairs, Financial Affairs, and University Affairs. These committees would be advised, if not chaired, by the corresponding secretary. Every member of the Senate would have the right to vote on any of these standing committees. Committee structure would be outlined extensively in the Code of Operations. Unlike the current system, in which legislation is steered to one Assembly or another, this model would steer legislation to one of these four committees. Legislation passed from committee, however, would appear before the entire Senate, not just before half of the representative voices in ASMSU as is currently the case.
