Thursday, May 21, 2009 BOSTON — Bay State residents may not have to drive over the border to get into the multi-state Powerball game that sometimes features jackpots worth hundreds of millions of dollars if the state Senate gets its way. The Senate today approved a budget amendment that would authorize the state lottery to join the Powerball game, which supporters of the move said could bring in up to $25 million annually in new aid for cities and towns. The proposal to join the game, now in 32 other states, including the other five New England states, originated with State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill this week and was advanced in a budget amendment from Sen. Michael W. Morrissey, D-Quincy, that was approved today.
