What stops or slows milk production?
Health helps to ensure good milk production and health requires many factors to be in place. The basics should be taken care of such as adequate rest, good nutrition and the support of friends and family members. A peaceful atmosphere helps a lot. And last but very important is plenty of water, not soda or coffee but water. Stress is the number one killer and that can be emotional or physical. Lack of fluid intake can slow production a lot. For those that are feeding successfully and production is slowing, check your schedule. Don’t wait for them to fill up before feeding, that actually slows them down. Try to stick to a regular schedule. Breasts are like Ni cad batteries, they “remember” how much you used last time and will not make more next time. The number one rule is to empty them each feed.
