What style of jujitsu is the best?
Let’s go over the strengths and weaknesses of a few different grappling styles/schools and you can decide which is best for you (isolating jujitsu and excluding bjj doesn’t give you many options): Judo: Best overall. Strong in every area. Working from the clinch, takedowns/throws, groundwork (newaza) has everything and more that jujitsu offers. Pankration: Just as versatile as judo. Excellent art. Sambo: Another great all around art. Works well for self defense and adapts well to sport applications. Krav Maga: Great standing jujitsu/clinch work, incorporates judo and jujitsu for self defense applications. Very strong art for self defense with limited sport applications. BJJ: Focus is on combat for sport, limited usefulness for self defense. Japanese Jujitsu: Focused more on practical/self defense. Good standing/clinch work as well as groundwork.
