What support will ONC provide to the awardees? How will ONC work with states to integrate their existing plans for health information exchange within this new state grants framework?
During the application process, states were asked to evaluate their progress and submit strategic and operational plans. Based on the assessment, each applicant indicated where they are in the process: no existing plan; non-compliant existing plan; compliant existing plan. Strategic Plans are a tool for ONC and the state, territory or SDE to monitor, communicate, and guide progress throughout the four-year performance period. ONC will partner will all awardees and work closely with each of them as they progress along a continuum of planning and implementation. ONC will also provide ongoing program direction and technical assistance to help recipients in advancing HIE across all providers, as well as in enhancing the effectiveness and relevance of the state HIE initiatives to local and national health improvement goals.
