What technique works best?
Research has shown that cognitive behavioral (CBT) techniques are most effective for treatment for issues such as depression, anxiety, low self esteem, anger and compulsive behavior: drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, food etc. CBT was pioneered by Dr Aaron Beck. The premise is that our thoughts determine our attitudes and our actions. These thought patterns, attitudes and beliefs about ourselves, our relationships and the world where we live is established early in childhood. There is no need to dwell on deep dark issues in the past. The focus is on the present and moving forward in your life. Using Cognitive Therapy techniques, you identify your negativity, and learn to change how you think. Changing your perception, alters the way you feel and then you can confront the problem, in a new empowering manner. Unlike psychoanalysis, CBT this is not a long process. Your new thinking becomes automatic and you’ll gain a more positive outlook, and alternate strategies for living your life.
