Sears Holdings Corp. — which operates Sears and Kmart department stores — and large grocer Kroger Co. have revealed details of their stimulus-based promotions. Both companies are offering shoppers the chance to exchange their stimulus checks for store gift cards. Sears and Kroger have both said they’ll add 10 percent to the amount exchanged. Many individual taxpayers will be receiving a stimulus check for $600. An individual shopper at Sears or Kroger would therefore have $660 of purchasing power, and families exchanging their checks would have more. “Retailers are raising the bar,” said Scott Krugman, a spokesman for the National Retail Federation.
