What to wear with gladiator sandals?

I was out shopping last weekend and saw lots of cute gladiator sandals. However, I didn’t buy them because I’m not sure what I would wear with them. I’ve read some people mention that they should be worn with outfits which show more leg, but I never show my legs from my knees up, as I have some varicose veins and ugly knees. I am tall, though (5’10”), so the length of my leg from the knee down (sometimes I wear skirts/dresses to the mid-knee) is still quite long. Before I partake of this trend which I think it cool, I want to make sure I would be doing it the right way… As an aside, I did get two cool pairs of shoes last weekend. I am not overbuying now! The shoes filled gaps in my closet and will help me have more perfect outfits: Marc Fisher Glow Wedge – I got these in metallic with a muted leopard print, but that color isn’t showing anymore… I didn’t see the orange ones when I was at Macy’s, but I’m very happy with the ones I got.
