Such a delicate matter should be handled in-person or with a conversation. Often times, the slated wake and funeral will be posted in the local newspaper or a contact name/number will be listed. If this person wished their passing to be celebrated (ie. they know they're moving on to heaven and peace with God) then you could address an invitation as you would any other celebration. Though it seems odd that someone might want their passing celebrated, think of them and how they'd want their friends and family to view their passing on. Use your better judgment and contact other important family members for further etiquette on the matter.  more

I didn't know people sent funeral invitations. Usually the notice is so short, there isn't time, so you just have to call everyone. Maybe you are doing a memorial service. Try this: Please join the family of John A. Smith in a memorial service to honor his life. Then you could do a short bio, kind of like people write for the obituary. Then, at the bottom, the date, time and place. Sorry for your loss.  more

There is no such thing as a funeral invitation. People need to be told in person, not get some dumb little piece of paper saying that their loved one has died.  more

Never have heard of "funeral invitations". The only exception is if the person was some sort of public figure and crowd control and security is a concern.  more

Please join us as we remember and celebrate the life of name here. Then say where and when. I don't think you need to make it a death notice, including how they died. When they find out about the funeral, they will be in contact and find this stuff out. I am sorry for your loss. May God be with you and your family during this time, and always.  more
