Recalling from high school Sociology class never mind how many years (decades) ago: 1) children are not expected to survive so there must be many pregnances to have some babies in hope of having any survive for #2 and #3 2) children are an asset rather than a liability, contributing to the family industries (minimum examples “swishing away flies” and watching over younger children) 3) adult children are expected to care for their parents when get really old 4) when reincarnation is a belief, no soul is ever wasted by having a short life, that’s the way it is 5) having a wife or having wives with many children is a proof of manhood 6) having many children is a proof of womanhood and for lucky #7, we have the outside traditional belief that there is no downside to improved pre-natal care.
